Time-management tips for teenagers

We, as a family, are aware that we’re in a serious situation right now and recommend everyone follow the current government advice for everyone’s safety. We hope that you are all doing well.

It is easy to understand why you may lack motivation and be unproductive. Develop positive habits now and reap the benefits later.

It helps me focus when I write down things. Lists and notice boards serve as constant reminders of my goals. They help me stay on track.

Here are some of my best tips for managing your time and sticking to a schedule.

1. Plan your day each morning and write it down

Make a rough schedule of your daily activities. I am a full-time sportsperson and must train at least two times a day. I divide my time between studying and exercising. This helps me be more motivated and productive.

The night before, I plan my tasks for the next day. You’re more likely to drift through the day if you don’t have a plan. Take a moment at the end of every day to reflect on what you’ve accomplished.

2. Plan your week ahead

Fill this list with ideas and tasks, and aim high. If possible, try to finish it all.

Don’t pick only the fun or easy tasks. If necessary, you can add unfinished tasks to the next week’s schedule.

Take a moment at the end of each week to reflect on all that you have accomplished. Your success will inspire you to continue on your path.

3. Projects and ideas that are larger in scope for the coming months

If you wish, take on a larger project in the coming months. This could be the perfect time to plant seeds for your future.

Business/job/study/opportunities: Make a list of people you want to get in touch with and start emailing them. Planting these ideas will help you achieve your goals. Most businesses and employees work from home and may have time to answer emails.

Reading is a good way to learn about a topic that interests you. You can choose from a biography, a factual book, a history, or a simple, fun read.

Languages Learn a language online, whether it’s BSL or a foreign one.

Yoga is great for your health and well-being in this turbulent time. You can find many free videos on the internet.

Exercise Now is the time to improve your health and focus on yourself with a sensible diet and exercise plan. I will film a short video showing some simple at-home exercises.

Develop new skills. There are a plethora of ‘how-to’ videos available on the internet. It is important only to watch videos from credible sources. Cooking, DIY, crafts etc

Stay connected: You can stay in touch with your friends and reconnect with people you’ve had little contact with. Create new WhatsApp groups and video calls. Virtually keep in touch with friends and family. Reach out to other people; they will probably appreciate it.

Meditation and mindfulness: This helps you focus and can support mental health. You can download many apps for this. They are used every morning before training. It sets you up for your day.

Stay safe!
