Our holiday to Egypt

Just returned from a two-week holiday in Hurghada, Egypt. Kenzie was great and didn’t seem to mind the six-hour journey. He was happy to color and play with his books and never complained about the noise. We booked special assistance at the airport and were again very well supported by the staff. He also got to enjoy playing in his favorite sensory room.

Our resort was perfect for kids. Kenzie could choose between five pools and a private beach. He loved the restaurants and being able to pick his food each day.

Kenzie is a big fan of swimming. We spent most of the days in pools. When we swim at home, it’s not a problem for him to wear his “swimming ear” (the plastic covers over his cochlear implant). He can’t hear well enough with the swimming ears. So, having to wear them on holiday was frustrating.

He asked to swap back to his original ears on a regular basis. Although it can be difficult to change them, I felt that doing so was important. I put a hat on top of his ears to protect them and ensured they were placed in the dry box each night.

The plastic case can make it difficult to keep the swimming ears in place. They are also bulky and heavy. The clips don’t have a loop to hold them on his ear, so I used a headband to cover the pins and keep them in position. This worked well.

Kenzie loved using his water gun to get the Pirates onto the Pirate Boat and racing down the slides. At the pool, he loved to play with his cars. He made a friend with whom he played every day. Kenzie was younger and spoke a different dialect, but that didn’t stop him from playing with Kenzie. They even learned some new words together.

Kenzie also loved the glass bottom boat rides to see the fish below the ocean. He didn’t seem to mind the noise or the people on the boat. He was probably too busy having fun to notice.

The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful to Kenzie. The team made sure to speak slowly and were very friendly, even with the language barrier. They also made an effort to play with Kenzie or shake his hands.

I have wonderful memories of our holiday. I love our little adventures!
