Accessibility at Disney on Ice

The accessibility team at OVO Hydro and the interpreter who performed for Olivia at Disney on Ice were both excellent.

The team was very understanding and helpful from the moment I called to explain Olivia’s situation. Robin, from the accessibility team, organized Olivia’s interpreter and our seating. She asked me what I thought Olivia should experience. She is an absolute credit to her team.

Robin met us and led us to our seats. She made sure that the interpreter was positioned in the most optimal position and that Olivia had a clear view of the ice skating rink. She made sure we had all the things we needed.

Chris, the interpreter, was very friendly. He welcomed us upon arrival and ensured that the lighting was just right. He was so animated during the show – it was magical to watch. I’ve learned so many new Disney signs that I can now practice with Olivia. She was glued to his face the whole time.

Booking experiences such as these can often be a daunting task for parents of deaf children. These experiences come with a lot of worry. Will my child be able to see the entire show? Will we be seated in the best seats so that she can see all she needs? Will she be included in the event? Is she going to be fully formed? We are so grateful to the Hydro’s accessibility team for answering yes to these questions.

This isn’t the case all of the time, but I am aware of it. The deaf community is often overlooked in performances such as these, which makes it hard for them to be included fully. It’s important to reach out to the accessibility team, no matter how small or large the event. Explain the need, your child’s requirements, and the importance of the item.

It made our little daughter so happy. It’s priceless to watch your baby clap and dance in her element.

I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart again for letting this little girl experience her own magical Disney adventure.
