The Missing Hearing Aid

I am a Freddie’s Hearing Aid. We both love being hearing aids. Every morning, Freddie wakes up, puts us in his ear, and walks to school. On weekends, Freddie takes us to the park or forest for adventures. One thing that I like about Freddie is his eagerness to participate in class. He is always willing to try his best in life, even though being deaf can make things a bit more difficult.

Freddie was very excited to go canoeing for the first ever time. I was a little unsure because hearing aids can break when submerged in water. It was peaceful despite my fears. As I was getting used to watching Freddie have a good time, I got caught in an overhanging branch. I was yanked out of Freddie’s ear. I quietly plopped in the water. “Nooooo,” whistled I. Freddie was desperately searching for me, but it was already too late. Slowly, I rounded a corner to get away from Freddie.

A few minutes later, I realized that I was at the mouth of the river. I would certainly break in the rough waters. Suddenly, I felt myself being lifted and lifted in the air. I could not believe my good fortune; I won’t get damaged in the rough waters! “Oh, instead I’ll be eaten by baby bird.” As I watched the fields below me zoom past, I thought about how upset Freddie would be now that he could only hear Eddie.

As I was wondering if I would ever see Freddie, I walked into a store I recognized. “That’s Freddie’s favorite shop Toys Toys And More Toys!” I also saw someone I realized. “That was Freddie’s neighbour.” I knew this place. This is Freddie’s hometown! I whistled loudly enough that the bird dropped on me. “Ouch,” mumbled I. “Wait! This is Freddie’s home and I am sitting on his doorstep!” All I have to do now is wait for Freddie’s door to open and hope no magpies notice me.

Thankfully, I didn’t need to wait too long. Freddie’s mother opened the door and shouted to Freddie that he should see what had happened to his hearing aid. Freddie went to the door within seconds. He picked me up and brushed me away before putting me in his ear. “Ah, it’s nice to be in Freddie’s comfortable ear again.”

Freddie places me on his nightstand, and I tell Eddie my story when Freddie falls asleep. Eddie was a hearing aid. I asked him if he’d consider changing jobs. Eddie replied, “I would change jobs for certain jobs, but I love being a Hearing Aid.” “I wouldn’t,” I replied to Eddie. “After all who could want a better job, than to be the one responsible for Freddie’s life being changed?”
