All Monkeys Love Bananas!
Llyn Zoo is located in the most beautiful area of Wales at the tip of the North West Coast. The Llyn Zoo is home to three monkeys: Cheeky Charles, Happy Harry, and Magic Mark. They are all happy and playful and enjoy their day.
George, a small boy who comes to visit them each week, is their best friend. He wears a hat all the time. When Phil, the zookeeper, called for the monkeys to come over and get their special treat, bananas covered in chocolate, Happy Harry, Magic Mark, and the rest of the monkeys came running. Where was Cheeky Charlie, though? When he got there, they were all gone! Phil was worried because Cheeky Charlie had not received his snack for the past few days. Charlie must be sick, he thought. All monkeys love bananas.
Phil then arranged to have Naomi, the vet, see Cheeky Charlie. Naomi listened to Cheeky Charlie’s chest, heart, and tummy. But there was no problem. She told him a funny joke, but he did not laugh. Naomi asked, “I wonder if I’m not hearing you.” “Let’s do a test!” Vet Naomi found that Cheeky Charlie had a deaf ear.
Cheeky Charlie’s hearing aid was worn for the first day by Cheeky Charlie. Yellow and blue were his favorite colors. Magic Mike laughed and pointed at Charlie when he saw Happy Harry. Cheeky Charlie was scared and sad.
George visited them on that sunny day. George said, “It is too hot for a cap today. It makes my head itch.” He removed his hat. Cheeky Charlie was surprised to see that George also had a hearing device! Cheeky Charlie felt much happier.
Who was the first one to grab a banana today? It was Cheeky Charlie with the biggest smile at the zoo.
Julia Donaldson CBE, one of our judges, said: A humorous story told in a fun way. The relationship between the boy who was deaf and the monkey who was deaf was very touching.
