A day out in London
We visited London during half-term and booked a speedboat experience. Isaac has started to love London as much as I do. We also visited Covent Garden and the Natural History Museum over the summer.
I worry when we visit London about the crowds, and especially how crowded the Underground is. I’m worried that Isaac will get lost in the chaos if he is distracted. We use the radio to help us in these situations when I remember (or can get it from school). Isaac also keeps our numbers written on a small piece of paper in his pocket.
Isaac’s love for thrills comes from me. Before we went, I checked the website to see that there would be very little narration. Isaac was informed that the boat would be loud and music would be played during the trip. I gave him the option to remove his hearing aids or keep them in. He said that if the boat were too loud, he would release his hearing aids. I was worried about them coming out, but they stayed in place.
We had an absolute blast! The ride was bumpy, loud, and fast. I talked about the sights in quieter moments and checked on him at every step. Holding on to each as we raced down the Thames allowed him to lip-read when needed. We were fortunate with the weather and didn’t need to worry about rain damaging his hearing aids.
It’s worth it to see how much fun Isaac is having on our adventures.
